Tim Patrick Music

All About Jazz CD Review

August 7, 2008

Blessed with a confident, Irish tenor voice, Tim Patrick, effortlessly sings through 35 minutes worth of golden standards with joy and warmth. Patrick's strong, cheerful voice has a boldness; witness the dynamic way he sprouts "I love you" on the opening "The Way You Look Tonight." His friendly vibrato is put to excellent use as he holds on the last words of a line with an extra embrace, as on "Smile." His percussive use of punctuation is quite infectious during his introductory duet with the piano on "Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)." Likewise, he is capable of being reassuring and calm as he caresses the lyrics to Johnny Mandel's "The Shadow of Your Smile" with a subliminal Latin beat. The clever calypso version of "On The Street Where You Live" closes a successful recording from a gentleman I would definitely like to have a second helping of. Tim Patrick's "The Shadow of Your Smile" is a lucky find.
